Let's start by saying that it is an uncomfortable situation if you find yourself alone very sure you will not know with whom you can communicate and tell them that you are trapped inside the elevator. In case you meet family or friends, you will be uncertain about how you can help them get out of the elevator. Finally, if you meet more people who are not known, you will be afraid of not knowing how this person may react to this situation. In either case, your survival instinct is very likely to be activated.

Fortunately, it is not a very common situation and in general, everything works out, taking with you a good story to tell for that day.

Some figures that demonstrate this situation are those provided by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), where the number of fatalities caused by people using stairs in buildings is related to more than one thousand (1,000) vs twenty-seven (27) people. by elevators and escalators.

Taking into account the above, what is the step by step to get out of an elevator, when it is blocked?

The first thing you should do is stay calm, we understand that it is an uncomfortable situation, but as we saw previously, elevators are the safest means of transporting yourself in a building.

Second, locate the button panel in the cabin,  in it, you can find the emergency call button. Once it is pressed, you will communicate with the building's goal. In case your building is smart or no one answers you, you can find an emergency number for the elevator company. If you cannot communicate with anyone, as a last alternative call the official fire department of your city in Colombia, the number one hundred and nineteen 119, or the national emergency line at 123.

Third, when you hear people approaching, announce your position by pressing the alarm button. This will activate the emergency bell or siren.

Fifth, you have to always do people in an orderly manner, giving priority to pregnant women, children, the elderly, and people with some type of disability.

Finally, when all the people have left. Make sure the elevator doors are completely closed.

Please always keep these recommendations in mind, in case you get stuck inside an elevator.
